Our Adventures...

Almuñécar - 15/09/18

We decided to adventure to the coast for the first time since we've been here. The weather was a little bit cooler than what we've got used to but that didn't stop us. We used the ALSA bus service to get there, taking a little over an hour, but the tickets are super cheap, which was handy because we still hadn't been blessed by the Erasmus grant Gods.

When we got there we decided to head straight for food as we were starving. Seen as though it was Annie's birthday, we treated ourselves to a posh meal. Fancy veggie mushroom burger and grilled duck with blueberry sauce - yum!

Then it was time for some sunbathing and a dip in the sea. It wasn't as cold as we expected to be honest, it was like getting into a lukewarm bath (but Rebeka thought otherwise). After we dried off, we went for a little wander before going back to the beach to chill out for a bit longer. Just before we left, we watched a storm come in from across the beach. It was super weird because we were still sunbathing but could see the rain and lightning, and hear the thunder.

Sierra Nevada (Los Cahorros) - 22/09/18

We decided it would be a shame not to adventure into the mountains before the weather got rubbish, so we googled the best walks around Granada (And wanted to pretend to be Bear Grylls for the day). After a little bit of research we decided that Los Cahorros would be the best route for use as it was said to be "easy". Or so we thought. So we made a little packed lunch, smothered ourselves in suncream and got the bus to a little village called Monachil near the start of the route.

From here we decided it would be best to get a map from the tourist office. Despite it being a tourist office, we stuck to our guns and spoke in Spanish with a customer service lady who told us which path to follow on the map. We even got complimented on our Spanish! So exciting!

From what we read on the internet, the full route was 2 hours. However, this was not the case. We left our flat at 10.30am and didn't return until 8pm, but it was so worth it. We had to crawl, climb and tackle suspension bridges. Not the "easy" route we expected but there were many people walking in the area just getting on with it and having fun.

The adventure didn't finish there though...

Once we got back to the village we went to a little café to induldge in several Fanta Límons. Just what we needed. After about half an hour we went to get the bus back to Granada. Oh how ready we were for a cup of tea and a nice hot shower.

Well, there we waited for nearly an hour, with a group of tourists from all over the world. The bus timetable wasn't very clear at all and we soon discovered that buses did not run on a Saturday afternoon. Luckily, we bumped into an American couple who arrived on the same bus as us and they were in the same position as ourselves, so suggested we share a taxi. What a wonderful idea. Wrong. ALL of the taxi companies were fully booked. Though ringing a taxi in Spanish is another thing to tick off our achievement list.

At this point we were shattered and just wanted to be in bed. But as luck would have it, a German couple rallied us all together to march to the next village. This was the last thing we wanted to do but we were desperate to get to the flat knowing we had to get up early the next day for a trip to the beach. The walk took around 30 minutes down a main road which was super easy in comparison to what we'd already done.

We found out the bus was due in 15 minutes but by this point we'd had enough of the sun for the day and had no water left. What was the solution to this? Sitting in the shade of a dustbin on the dirty floor. We must have looked a mess, but we could not have cared less. Not long after, the bus turned up and we were 30 minutes from being home. By the time we got back we were starving, and we thought there's no better way to treat ourselves than ordering a well-deserved Domino's, having a hot shower, then getting into bed.

And just like that we can read a map.

Nerja - 23/09/18

Yep. That's right. We went to the beach again - it's a hard life being an Erasmus student. This time we went on an "organised" trip, if we can even call it that. We paid a student union company to take us on this trip as it included transport, lunch (a sandwich) and an open bar so it was a bargain to be fair. We set over an hour later than what we were told we would *insert eye roll* which wasn't easy on our bladders, bearing in mind there wasn't even a loo on the coach.

We spent the majority of our time there sunbathing and swimming, but about half way through the day we went for an ice-cream with some friends. Then we went on a walk to a viewing point that overlooked the coast. It was pretty amazing!

Timings were again an issue on the way home as the itinerary said we were leaving at 6:30 but we didn't set off until 8:00! Shattered would be an understatement.

Don't worry though, our adventures won't stop here!
